Stefania Bartolo’s legal team has issued a statement to clarify details around her resignation as San Andrea School Principal.

Hitting back at a report on her resignation which came as she was under self-suspension in the wake of financial mismanagement claims made by another former San Andrea official, lawyer Kris Busietta denied any insinuations that “Bartolo had or played a role in any mismanagement of school funds”.

“First of all, there was never any allegation of mismanagement of millions! Secondly, Ms Bartolo as Principal did not administer any school funds during her tenure.”

“Finally, Ms Bartolo’s resignation was a voluntary one as detailed in her letter of resignation.”

An independent inquiry was set up following allegations of mismanagement of over €4 million, with the results of this inquiry yet to be made public.

Bartolo maintains her resignation was due to personal reasons, and that the wellbeing of her family and herself were paramount during this time. She had even suspended herself following the allegations to “set a good example”.

Her resignation was formally made on 30th May.
