‘Stepping Into A New Chapter’: Son Of Sandro Chetcuti Named New MDA CEO

The son of the former President and founder of the Malta Development Association Sandro Chetcuti has just been named the new CEO.

“Stepping into a new chapter. Design and Build magazine captured a moment of this transition as I embrace the role of CEO at the Malta Development Association,” lawyer Leon Chetcuti wrote on Facebook.

“Gratitude to the MDA for the opportunity and to Design and Build for their support.”

Leon Chetcuti was already a council member of the MDA before his role was promoted. In fact, he is still listed as a council member on the association’s website.

Meanwhile, Sandro Chetcuti stepped down from his role as MDA President back in 2021 before he was replaced by Michael Stivala who acted as interim president.

The association has not had a CEO since Marthese Portelli left, and in order to alleviate the work on the current president’s shoulders, they issued a public call for a new CEO, Stivala told Lovin Malta.

Leon Chetcuti was one of a number of candidates and he was recently voted in as one of the five council members. There were ten applicants for these vacancies and Leon got the second highest votes. A vote was held among the MDA council, excluding Leon, and the council unanimously agreed that Leon should be the next CEO.

Since accepting his new position, he has resigned from the council.

Stivala told Lovin Malta that he believes Leon is worthy of the position of CEO being both young and experienced in the property industry.

Stivala further told Malta Today that Leon will be assisting him in the day-to-day running of the NGO.

He further explained Leon Chetcuti will also be managing staff and heading the MDA’s public consultations.

What do you make of Leon Chetcuti’s promotion?
