Stop Work Order Issued For Qawra Construction Site After Balcony Collapse

The authorities have issued a stop order against construction works in Qawra pending an investigation into the collapse of two balconies over the facade of a bar.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said they are conducting a joint investigation with the OHSA into the building, which was built in the 1980s, and a development that is being carried out in the vicinity.

A preliminary statement has been requested from the architect responsible for the construction work to confirm that there is no danger to any third party in the vicinity. The authorities have also issued a notice to stop the works until the necessary investigation is carried out and compliance with the law is ensured.

They urged people who have concerns regarding construction sites to reach out to the authorities via the 138 helpline.

The balconies collapsed over the facade of Shaggy’s Bar in Triq l-Imrejkba, Qawra at around 2:10am this morning.

Emergency services, including the police and Civil Protection Department, were called to the scene, and thankfully no injuries were reported.
