Free Screening Of Award-Winning URNA Documentary At Spazju Kreattiv

A free public screening of the acclaimed URNA documentary will take place on Saturday, 23rd August at 5:30pm at St James Cavalier, Valletta. The event will feature a Q&A session with the URNA team, offering audiences a unique opportunity to hear directly from the creators behind this groundbreaking work. Attendance is free, but booking is required.
The evening will begin with URNA at 5.30pm, a film by Maltese artist and filmmaker Stephanie Sant, capturing a striking moment in January 2025 when three mourners and a quarry worker took part in a new funerary ritual set inside a Maltese quarry.
At 6:00pm, audiences will be treated to URNA: The Story, a behind-the-scenes documentary by Sam Chetcuti. This film follows the URNA team in Malta and London as they develop the Malta Pavilion for the London Design Biennale, from its earliest concept to its full realisation.
URNA delves into a culturally significant theme: the management of human remains, imagining an artistic and thought-provoking future for cremation in Malta. The installation was a collaborative effort led by curator Andrew Borg Wirth, architects Anthony Bonnici and Thomas Mifsud of Ebejer Bonnici, artistic director Matthew Attard Navarro of ANCC Studio, French photographer Anne Immelé, and Cypriot architect Tanil Raif.
The project gained international recognition earlier this year when it won the top medal at the 2025 London Design Biennale, standing out among 50 global participants with its powerful and provocative installation.
Tickets for the screening can be booked online.
