Swieqi Deputy Mayor Hands Out Books To Protest Persistent Power Cuts
As more power cuts were reported across the island over the weekend, including in Swieqi, Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace came up with the idea to distribute books to residents in protest of the persistent power outages.
This symbolic gesture referenced last year when Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli had suggested that people should read a book until the power came back.
“As Deputy Mayor, I’ve seen power cuts become the norm in 2024 under this administration. The only solution they offered us was to read a book,” Galea Pace stated, as he explained why he felt the need to do this gesture on his own accord.

“I left a book with a note on several doorsteps in Swieqi since that’s the only solution this administration has provided. We were promised no power cuts in summer. Another failed promise and lie,” the deputy mayor announced.
Galea Pace also shared that he has a “special” book saved for Energy Minister Miriam Dalli titled “Qabża Oħra ta’ Kwalità” which he cheekily suggested she should read.
