The fight against plastic is a global one that has gained insane momentum in the past few years. The world is quickly moving away from single use plastic and seeking alternative resources, and we may be looking at an almost plastic-free future.

Five Maltese athletes and activists are preparing to head off on an insane feat in an attempt to raise awareness about the fight against plastic.

On the 29th of June, five Maltese swimmers will be swimming around the entire perimeter of the island of Gozo in less than a day

That’s 35km, and they’re aiming to get it done in under 11 hours. Neil Agius, Richard Zerafa, Andrew Azzopardi, Steven Grech and Hannah Cutajar will be taking on the #WaveofChange and making it a point to get to the finish line together.

Last year, Neil Agius, Gilbert Bartolo and Richard Zerafa took on the challenge of swimming around Malta in 24 hours. Neil was the only person to make it all the way around; swimming 70km in just under 22 hours.

This swim should be a piece of cake in comparison to last year’s. However, the athletes are making it a point to make it to the finish line together. So they’re going to have work hard to keep each other motivated throughout the swim.
