A Syrian man has been charged with human trafficking after helping coordinate the journey of a group of irregular migrants into Malta.

Police investigations into the issue began on 14th September after a group of asylum seekers were found landing in Delimara Bay.

The man, aged 50, was eventually found to be the one who organised the arrival. He is a resident of Malta.

Investigations are still ongoing and others may be charged in the case.

Malta is currently undergoing a major clamp down on irregular migration and has arrested scores of people who did not have the correct documentation over the last few weeks.
