Taxi Driver And Passenger Arrested In Sliema After Suq Tal-Belt Robbery

A taxi driver and his passenger were arrested in Sliema this afternoon in connection with a robbery at Suq tal-Belt earlier in the day.

According to TVM, the incident took place at around 2pm when a man entered one of the Suq tal-Belt food outlets and made off with a bag of cash. He caught a taxi, which drove off in the direction of the cruise passenger terminal, with employees of the outlet trying to give space.

Police were given a description of the taxi and, after around an hour, they found it parked along the Sliema coast and promptly arrested the driver and a passenger.

According to TVM, the driver has told police that he had dropped off the alleged robber at Msida before continuing on to Sliema.

However, the driver, who has reportedly been charged with theft before, and his passenger have both been arrested.
