‘The Chickens Have Come Home To Roost’: Stagno Navarra Plans Two Magisterial Inquiries Into PN And Grech

Karl Stagno Navarra has announced he will request two magisterial inquiries – one into the Nationalist Party’s finances and another into the financial situation of Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and third parties.

“My only comment at this stage is that the chickens have come home to roost,” the former ONE journalist told Lovin Malta as he confirmed the inquiry requests will be filed in the coming hours.

He stated that, as a protective measure, three copies of these inquiry requests have been handed to three different individuals.

The first inquiry request relates to “illegal financing, criminal conspiracy, fiscal evasion and money laundering by the Nationalist Party” and contains issues such as missing NI payments to workers, union membership, and the PN’s failure to file their accounts for the past four years.

The second is targeted at Grech personally, as well as other unnamed third parties, and follows a statement in Parliament by Prime Minister Robert Abela obtained money from third parties to pay €61,000 in taxes.

“He said a few weeks ago that he repaid it thanks to a loan he had given his son, and he had no shame lying in front of the nation,” Abela said.

“We know where the money came from and we have a list of the people who gave him the money, but I ask whether he paid tax on that money, why is he still refusing to say where the money came from, and whether it amounts to unexplained wealth or money laundering.”

Stagno Navarra said that when Grech claimed to have received the money from his son, he “placed his son under the FIAU’s spotlight for unexplained wealth, particularly as an politically exposed person”.

“Now Bernard Grech has landed in even more trouble this week, and wonder of wonders, the police commissioner hasn’t budged despite a clear declaration by the Prime Minister in Parliament that the money was paid by a list of people,” he said.

“Using the same standard as the recent court statement by a police superintendent, where action was taken based on media reports, can the Commissioner explain why the payment of Bernard Grech’s tax bill is not being investigated?”

“My question is crystal clear – doesn’t the police commissioner consider the payment of the Opposition Leader’s tax arrears to amount to corruption? Help me out here, friends – I am either living on another planet or the police depot has become a PN club. No wonder some people have already decided my destiny and are determined to shut me up  – the Mafia is around us and it isn’t the PL.”
