The First Week Of Spring In Malta Won’t Be As Sunny As You’d Expect

This week might mark the start of spring, but much of northern Europe is currently going through one final chill before the weather is set to improve. And while back in Malta we might not have snowstorms, it’s still not spring weather just yet.

Today (Tuesday) is actually set to be one of the sunniest and warmest days of the week, with the rest of the day forecasted to be sunny. Even though the UV Index is still at a relatively low 5, highs of 17°C will dominate the day. As for the evening, the temperature will be going down to 11°C, which is only set to feel fresher with southern wind forces of 5 and 6.

Wednesday and Thursday, on the other hand, are a little bit more of a mixed bag. Starting with Wednesday’s partly cloudy, 18°C and ending with Thursday’s isolated showers, the temperature will steadily start falling. By the end of the week, in fact, the highest temperatures will be a mere 11°C; the same as the lowest temperatures of the beginning of the week. This is mostly due to the Force 6 winds which will make the actual temperature feel some 3 to 4°C colder over the day. By Thursday nights, the temperatures will go back down to the single digits, feeling around 9°C… or even colder, if the strong winds persist.

The temperatures might go back up to 16°C by the time the weekend arrives, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday all have rain on the forecast. Friday night will be particularly fresh, with temperatures just barely making it to the double digits.

It’s been a rather windy winter in Malta, with winds of Force 5, 6 and beyond becoming something of a normality. However, many people might’ve been expecting a slight change now that spring is incoming (especially after a particularly sunny end to St. Joseph Day on Monday).

All things considered, though, it seems like we might have to wait a little longer until the uninterrupted sunny warm days arrive to the tiny Mediterranean island.
