‘The Grass Is Greener When It’s Artificial Turf?’ Maltese Public Garden’s New Look Raises Fresh Questions

A public garden’s new artificial turf has raised questions as to why these open spaces aren’t being covered in fresh green grass.

“Instead of cement, is this how our little green spaces are going to look like? All fake! What’s next? Plastic trees and birds?” asked one person after an image of a Maltese garden made the rounds online.

Beyond the actual turf itself, many people were left confused at the rough installation of the fake lawn.

“Is this the finished product?” wondered another. “All I see is trip hazards everywhere as it is so badly installed. Artificial turf is a ridiculous choice for a public space in Malta with your extreme summers as the turf heats up and radiates heat.”

“Why not paint concrete green. Easy, cheap, no mess. Looks just like the real thing?”

People couldn’t get over how fake the turf looked, with many seeing it as just another part of the “uglification” of Malta.

“Does everything have to be so artificial these days? Even the sodding grass? It’s . sad environment they’re imposing on the rest of us,” lamented a Maltese person.
