‘The Greatest Singer Of All Time’ Aretha Franklin Dies At 76
Legendary singer Aretha Franklin, known to millions as the veritable Queen of Soul, has died at age 76. After battling various undisclosed illnesses for years, Franklin died earlier today at her Detroit home surrounded by family and friends, the Associated Press reported.
Over four different decades, the beloved American icon had won a total of 20 Grammys, including a lifetime achievement. She was also crowned Number 1 on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time.
Last year, the beloved singer had announced plans to retire, saying she would only perform at “some select things”. Earlier this year, however, Franklin had cancelled planned concerts after she was ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest up.
After it was reported that she was “gravely ill” earlier last week, Franklin’s family had announced that, while under the care of hospice workers at her Detroit home, the Queen of Soul was “at peace with her journey”.
“She has been having lucid moments” a source had told Fox News just yesterday. “She is where she is supposed to be, at home and surrounded by only love.”
Rest In Peace Aretha, and thanks for teaching us a thing or two about respect
