The much-loved Kinemastik International Short Film Festival is back, bringing together a love for cinema and music in one of the most iconic locations in Malta.

“It’s not like we really went anywhere – there was the collaboration with Amsterdam-based TheOneMinutes that ran for two years, and generated local short films, and our short film programme continued to show in Malta’s best cinemas for 2020 and 2021. But we missed our Garden of Rest and we missed you,” the organisers said.

Taking place in the Garden of Rest in Floriana between 29th and 31st July, the Kinemastik International Short Film Festival is set in a deconsecrated cemetery and garden overlooking Marsamxett Harbour.

Friday and Saturday nights will feature screenings of the Main Programme of international short films, with an award-winning selection of recent works from around the world.

“Our audience love to vote and will be responsible for selecting their favourite film screened in the Main Programme. We have an international jury made up of award-winning film directors Pia Borg and Fern Silva, who are joined by Belgian Koen De Roovere,” the organisers added.

There’s even a festival for kids to enjoy on Sunday.

Maltese films are being screened on monitors located in the garden as part of the programme it-Talkies. For lovers of experimental and avant-garde film there’s the Neck of the Woods programme to discover.

Double Standard will also perform live n Friday night which will be followed by the usual line-up of world famous Kinemastik DJs. Les Nuits Cosmiques take over Saturday evening, with cosmic satellite local artist JOON playing a sundowner set at 19:00, and DJs Dean Wengrow, Nigel Baldacchino and Campbell Reid luring us back on the dance floor.
