‘The Living Bridge’ In Bali By Maltese Architect Jonathan Mizzi Nominated For 2025 PUNCH Sustainable Building & Design Award
A Maltese-led sustainable design project in Bali is continuing to make waves internationally.
The Living Bridge, designed by Mizzi Studio for Green School Bali, has been nominated for the 2025 PUNCH Sustainable Building & Design Award, with public voting open until tomorrow, 3rd December.
The project has already earned significant global recognition this year, including being shortlisted for the 2024 Built by Nature Global Prize, where it stood alongside major international firms like ARUP, dRMM and Bauhaus Earth.
Built from locally harvested bamboo and upcycled materials, The Living Bridge was co-created with students, teachers, parents and Bali’s master craft team. The construction process doubled as a “living classroom”, and the final structure now serves as a shared learning and co-working space centred on regenerative design.

Mizzi Studio, founded by Maltese architect Jonathan Mizzi, works between Malta and London and focuses on low-carbon, regenerative architecture. Recent work includes showcases at ChangeNOW 2025 in Paris and sustainable design installations at Kew Gardens.
