The prison guard charged with raping a 15-year-old female prisoner at the Young Offenders prison has been named as Joseph Zammit, a 52-year-old from Kirkop.

Zammit was prosecuted today with the sexual abuse of a minor and the attempted sexual abuse of another minor inmate. Represented by his lawyer Franco Debono, he was denied bail by magistrate Audrey Demicoli.

TVM reported this morning that the alleged abuse took pace last July at the Young Offenders juvenile prison in Mtaħleb, prompting the young inmate to report the guard to the prison’s administration.
