These Are The Bail Conditions Yorgen Fenech Must Abide By
Yorgen Fenech was released on bail after being held in prison for five years, making him the longest-serving prisoner without bail in Malta’s history.
He was arrested and charged in 2019 with complicity in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. He has since pleaded not guilty.
The businessman has to pay an €80,000 deposit and a €120,000 personal guarantee. His aunt Moira Fenech will serve as his guarantor and her 15.45% shares of Tumas company will act as collateral.
This is what his bail entails:
Physical restrictions
Fenech must not go within 50 metres of the coast or airport.
Bail book
He must sign a bail book at the St Julian’s police station every day.
Outdoor hours
He must stay indoors between 5pm and 11am.
Surveillance
A probation officer will be assigned to supervise him and he must only live at the address provided to the court. A police officer will also be stationed outside his residence for 24 hours a day.
Documents
His passport and identification documents will be held by the court.
Court orders
Fenech must not communicate or approach prosecuting witnesses in the case against him, specifically Melvin Theuma and former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri.
Daphne Caruana Galizia’s relatives will be the subject of a court-issued protection order.
