‘These Aren’t Politicians Of The People,’ PN MP Warns In Strong Reaction To Fenech-Cutajar Chats

Nationalist MP Alex Borg has issued a strong reaction to the recent leaks of Roseanne Cutajar’s WhatsApp messages with murder suspect Yorgen Fenech, warning the chats betray how out of touch some PL politicians are with the struggles of regular people.
“Beyond ideologies, opinions and personal relationships, PL has ended up with politicians who want to be served and not serve the people” Borg said.
“The people of Malta are scratching their heads about the state of the country, including issues like the cost of living, whether youths would be better off moving to another country, skyrocketing property prices, questions over whether this is the Malta parents want to raise their children in, people who worked their entire lives having to wait over a year for an operation, autism medicines out of stock, and measly pensions,” Borg said.
“On the other hand, PL politicians are concerned about luxury and the Prime Minister doesn’t use the same yardstick with everyone. Add a strong dose of arrogance, with doors slammed in the faces of those of goodwill – regardless of their political affiliation.”
“This is the political class that PL is offering, I don’t believe they are politicians of the people for the people.”
Borg’s PN colleague Ivan Castillo delivered a similar take, warning that Cutajar told Fenech that “everyone is pigging out” at a time when 52% of workers are earning less than the average wage, property has become unaffordable, poverty has reached “record levels”, and nurses, police officers and educators are being denied pay rises.
The chats were sensationally leaked yesterday by author Mark Camilleri, who Cutajar sued for libel for claiming that she had an affair with Fenech to advance herself politically, sensationally published the chats yesterday.
In one of the messages, Cutajar expresses her desire to boost her income from the public sector, telling Fenech that she will “become a consultant with ITS because everyone is pigging out”
Cutajar responded by asking the Criminal Court and the Attorney General to intervene on the grounds that the material likely originated from Fenech’s phone, which police seized after he was arrested for the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Prime Minister Robert Abela stood by Cutajar, accusing Camilleri of “misogyny” and of targeting her at “a particular moment in her life to ensure maximum damage”.
