‘These Guys Packed A Punch’: Neil Agius Bares 15 Gnarly Jellyfish Stings After ‘Tough Start’ To Swim
Malta’s very own Neil Agius has shared the stings he is currently suffering from as he sets out on a three day set of 12 hour swims.
However, though the ultra-athlete is no stranger to serious challenge, even he had to admit it was a “tough start”.
“First 12 hours in the bag – difficulty level 9/10,” Agius said, sharing photos of his warped skin.
“My body is covered in stings, approximately 15 intense ones. The pain through so many stings was something I have never experienced before. These guys packed a punch.”

Agius is training for his epic 100 mile swim from Palma to Ibiza in less than month, with these training session only seeing 10 hour rest periods between them.
However, Agius said he was feeling inspired by the incredible results from the GSSE 2023, where Maltese athletes took home the most medals to come in first place.
And it’s not like some jellyfish will be enough to ever stop Agius – indeed, in his recent conversation with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Agius broke down how he shapes his mindset towards positivity, where things like jellyfish stings only become more energy for the ultra-athlete.
