‘They Can Beat Me Up But Not Take Away My Spirit’, Says Gay Tourist Allegedly Attacked By Paceville Bouncer

Two queer tourists who were reportedly beaten up by a bouncer in Paceville have spoken up through a popular LGBTQ+ community Facebook page, Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), not only about their version of events, but about how they’re not letting the harrowing incident stop them from being themselves.

“Some people in the world will want to take your happiness and confidence in yourself away,” Andrew Michael Wunder told his friends and followers on Instagram on Wednesday morning. “No matter what the homophobic, hyper-masculine people of this world do, you cannot let them take that. They can beat me up, but not take away my spirit.”

While no information has been shared about where or when this incident took place, Andrew Michael Wunder has received an outpouring of support in the comment sections of both his personal Instagram account as well as a post on ARC.

Reacting to the shocking incident (which Andrew himself described the situation as a case of ‘gaybashing’ in the Instagram tags), ARC decried the case as “wrong on so many levels”.

“Entertainment establishments need to ensure their bouncers/security services don’t resort to physical violence at every opportunity they get,” ARC continued.

“This is the situation of gay-friendly Malta”

The Facebook post received a multitude of comments, with people not only sharing their own stories of homophobic encounters from the island, but also others hoping they would not face similar treatments when they come down to Malta this summer.
