‘They Won’t Even Pay Our December Salary’: Ex- Employee Of Malta-Based Gaming Company Gone Bust Speaks Out

An ex-employee of a gaming company which has gone bust has reached out to Lovin Malta to explain what it was like to be made redundant just two days before Christmas and learn that they would not even be paid their December salary.

“I’m shocked – we have our bills, loans and so on. This is not good, and the fact that it’s during Christmas time has made it even worse,” the ex-employee from Genesis Global Limited lamented to Lovin Malta.

He was one of 150 employees to receive a letter of redundancy from the Malta-based gaming company. They were given a 30-day notice, meaning they have to work those additional days otherwise they will be in breach of their contract.

“It is also with regret that we inform you that the Company may not be able to pay all or any of the dues that are due to you in terms of law.”

“This may include December salary, any outstanding salaries to cover this 30-day period and any outstanding notice due that may be due to you or any other statutory payments which may be due,” the letter read.

This means that, not only have they unknowingly worked all of December for no pay, but they’re being forced to work an additional 30-days which they will “most likely” not be paid for.

Nonetheless, the recipients of the letter were told that the company is “trying their best to find a solution” by attempting to “raise some funds” and liaise with the relevant authorities to “ease the burden and find alternative solutions” so that the 150 ex-employees will be paid “at least some of the money” they’re due.

Lovin Malta’s source further claimed that both the CEO and the HR team resigned around two to three weeks ago without informing the rest of the workers.

They also allegedly rented the office and made the employees with remaining leave for the year take “forced leave” from 30th November.

The company reportedly decided to permanently close its operation in Malta due to insolvency and consequently, all employees have been declared redundant.

Genesis Global Limited was initially suspended from operating in Britain back in 2020, this was reverted after three months due to “significant compliance improvements”, MaltaToday reported.

The UK Gambling Commission continued with its investigations and the company was fined £3.8m in January of this year. They also received a warning and an additional license condition demanding further auditing.

They were once again suspended from operating in Britain.
