A new Maltese initiative is set to grant parents of newborn children and those who adopt kids an amount of €300, but we finally have the full circumstances you’ll need to go through to qualify.

Unless you are a Maltese citizen, you’ll have to have been living in Malta for at least a period of 10 years before qualifying, a government spokesperson told Lovin Malta.

Should you wish to claim the grant, you will also need to ensure that your newborn is registered in the Maltese Public Registry otherwise you won’t be entitled to the amount.

The scheme will kick into play from January 2020 and is intended to give new parents in Malta a financial boost to assist with the initial costs of raising a child.

The ‘baby bonus’ scheme was a promise made during the Labour Party’s previous electoral manifesto, following the likes of of countries such as Australia, Japan and France who have already introduced such grants.
