Third Officer Charged Over Migrant Abduction And Beating: ‘One Victim Was Threatened With Knife’
A third police officer has been charged in connection with allegedly abducting and beating migrants.
Luca Brincat, aged 20 and from Qormi, was charged earlier today and has pleaded not guilty. He has been suspended from the force pending the case.
The other two officers, Rica Mifsud Grech and Jurgen Falzon, were charged on Sunday and have also pleaded not guilty.
Brincat was charged later after complaining about chest pains and being hospitalised.
According to police, the officers allegedly would go out on patrol and look for a foreign person. They would then abduct them, beat them, and dump them in an abandoned area.
There are allegedly two victims of the attacks. The attacks happened on different days.
“From the footage we have, besides the two victims already identified, we have an unidentified third man who also appears to have been threatened by the accused who was brandishing a knife,” inspectors said.
Bail was rejected with investigations ongoing.
Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Omar Zammit are prosecutors. Lawyers Anthony Vella and Kaylie Bonnett represented the Office of the Attorney General.
Lawyers Franco Debono and Francesca Zarb are defence counsel.
