The Office of The Prime Minister has responded to the release of Robert Aquilina’s new book, “Pilatus” which details corruption at Malta’s highest levels.

Without ever referring to the book or author by name, the OPM insisted that “authorities work in complete independence and autonomy” and “take decisions with the power given to them by law, according to what is right and right.”

The OPM statement was published just hours after the release of Aquilina’s book.

Repubblika president Robert Aquilina published a 750-page book this Saturday which he says includes “undeniable proof” on how a system of organised crime has been allowed to flourish in Malta.

“This book is a treasure trove of information and documentation, which Dr Aquilina has received from various confidential sources,” the online description of the book – released in English – reads.

Following its release, OPM insisted that Robert Abela’s government introduced reforms to allow institutions to work better, because “that’s how much this government believes in the institutions”.

“Not only has the government led by Robert Abela given institutions the tools to perform their work, but also gave citizens a new tool so that they too can challenge their decisions, as is happening in the current case, by whoever published the book.”

“That’s how much this government believes in the institutions, and any other allegation or move, that can even be thought of to condition pending proceedings that are in the Court, is an allegation that has no merit.”
