This Swieqi Couple Taught Us All How Halloween Should Be Done

A Swieqi couple is pulling out all the stops to frighten trick-or-treaters this Halloween. They’ve turned their home into an elaborate haunted house and even built a 60-metre tunnel in their front garden to lead revellers in.

This is not the first time Jean Paul and Johanna Barthet have gone all out on Halloween. Their house has over the years become a well-known stop on the popular trick-or-treating Swieqi route.

But this year they’ve gone a step further, building a scary walkthrough and hiring costume actors to make the place as spooky as possible. They’re expecting around 1,000 children to visit on Monday night (they’re open from 5pm).

They’ve also found a way to turn the event into a good cause, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis.

“What started off as a joke many years ago has now become an annual appointment. Every year we strive to improve on previous years, providing a shrilling experience, hopefully matching the expectations of all who dare enter. This year, we wanted to go the extra mile,” they wrote on the project’s Zaar crowdfunding page

Through their crowdfunding page the couple has already raised more than €650 before the event. The sum is expected to soar once entrants are asked to leave a donation of their choice upon visiting the haunted house. Donations will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
