This Year’s May In Malta Saw 60,000 More Tourists Than Last Year

This year’s May in Malta saw over 60,o00 more tourists than registered during the exact same time period in 2022, a recent NSO study has found.
During the month of May, a total of 284,944 inbound tourists visited Malta – 257,059 for holiday purposes, and 16,857 tourists for business purposes.
The largest share of inbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44, 41.5 percent, followed by the 45-64 age bracket, at 30.4 percent.
Italian, United Kingdom, and French residents made up 47.1 percent of total inbound tourists, making these three countries at the top for the origin of tourists visiting Malta.
Total nights spent went up by 24.1 percent when compared to May 2022, almost reaching 1.7 million nights.
The largest share of guest nights, 86.8 percent, was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at a bit less than six nights.
Total tourist expenditure surpassed €237.8 million, an increase of 36.1 per cent over the corresponding month in 2022. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €141.7.
Meanwhile, on a broader scale, inbound tourists for the first four months of 2023 amounted to 994,804, while the total nights spent almost reached 6.2 million nights.
