‘Threatening’ Facebook Comment Against PN MEP David Casa Lands Man In Court
A man will be charged in court this morning with threatening David Casa after he wrote on Facebook two months ago that the combative PN MEP should be “eliminated”.
Louis Bartolo’s comment, uploaded to a private Facebook post for Labour supporters and leaked to the blog of PN councillor Alana Abela Wadge, reads “Eliminate this brigand [who robs] his own country, his face betrays his true colours”.
The comment was aired at Casa after he joined a European Parliament committee which investigated the state of the rule of law in Malta following the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Amongst several recommendations, the committee demanded the instant sacking of tourism minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri after they were implicated in the Panama Papers scandal.
Back then, Casa told The Shift that he will not be intimidated by insults and threats as “the consequences of being silent and complacent are far too severe”.
Bartolo will be the second person to be charged in court with threatening a Nationalist MEP on Facebook in recent months. Back in November, 66-year-old Emmanuel Navarro was charged with threatening and inciting hatred against Roberta Metsola by writing that the PN MEP should be “burned alive”.
