Power outages may be on the cards after three men were arrested trying to steal cables in Floriana in the early hours of the morning.

At around 4am, police were alerted to an underground tunnel near Argotti Gardens in Floriana, after a report of men cutting and stealing fibre optic cables and copper cables.

A man was later caught carrying cables nearby. He was hiding and was ordered to come out.

The man was a 39-year-old Marsaskala resident.

The search continued until two other suspects were arrested, a 30-year-old Żejtun resident and a 35-year-old Nigerian man.
