The three men who were rushed to the hospital after the Santa Marija fireworks factory explosion have been discharged from Mater Dei.

News of their recovery came by way of a Facebook post issued by Socjeta Piroteknika 15 ta’ Awissu, with whom the men were affiliated.

The three suffered fractures and burns as a result of the ordeal but were no longer required to remain in the hospital for further treatment.

In their post, the association thanked all public sector workers who, with great professionalism, saw to their well-being. They also passed a heartwarming word of thanks to Our Lady for “having kept them under her watchful eye.”

Eleven people were at the factory when it was hit by an explosion on Saturday, with flames spreading rapidly through the surrounding fields and the billowing smoke visible from several towns, including Mġarr, Rabat, Mtarfa.

Incredibly, the main container of explosions wasn’t hit, meaning the incident could have been far worse.
