Three men from Mosta have been hospitalised with grievous injuries following yesterday’s explosion at the Soċjeta Piroteknika 15 ta’ Awwissu fireworks factory in Dwejra.

Two men, aged 25 and 29, were hospitalised shortly after the incident while the third, a 60-year-old man, joined them at around 2:30am.

Eleven people were at the factory when it was hit by an explosion yesterday, with flames spreading rapidly through the surrounding fields and the billowing smoke visible from several towns, including Mġarr, Rabat, Mtarfa.

The main container of explosions isn’t believed to have been hit, meaning the incident could have been even more serious.
