Throw Out Gaddafi’s Heirs Claims To €94 Million In BOV, Libyan State Says

Libya’s government is asking the court to demand the Bank of Valletta return over €94 million following an appeal from the heirs of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The Libyan government has always claimed the funds were theirs, since they were generated through illicit gains.

BOV was also admonished for not doing the proper due diligence on the accounts.

In June, a court agreed and ordered they be returned to the Libyan state. However, Gaddafi’s heirs have appealed the decision, arguing that the money constitutes private funds.

Lawyers for the Libyan government insist that the heirs had breached the law and that everything should be returned to the state.

The Libyan Prime Minister is currently on a visit to Malta amid tensions in the country.
