‘Today, We Got To Enjoy The Traditional Morning March,’ Councillor Sarcastically Says After Malta’s Roads Clogged With Cars
As Malta’s roads became jam-packed at the end of the first scholastic week on the island, one St Julian’s councillor couldn’t help but react to the congestion out of sheer frustration.
“A moment of silence for all of your clutches – may they rest in peace,” PN councillor Sean Gauci said today.
Sharing images of end-to-end cars in Paola, Żebbug and Attard – three central towns – Gauci went on to bleakly joke about how Malta’s traditional festa march had taken on a new form – with vehicles replacing statues.
“I am satisfied and happy with the fact that the festa exhibitions with marches going strong are always increasing and getting more competitive,” Gauci said.
“Today, we got to enjoy a beautiful spectacle with the morning march going from Żebbuġ to Qormi.”
People sardonically shot back by saying it would be the opportune time to set up a kiosk or pastizzeria on the side, with a captive potential client base right there in front of you.
Others pointed out that they were experiencing congestion in other localities as well, from Mosta to St Julian’s.
It wasn’t just Gauci – Valletta councillor Christian Micallef similarly commented on the “marches” before recounting how his 4-year-old son couldn’t bare the traffic anymore, telling his dad: “Papa, I don’t like this traffic, I think we should go and live somewhere else.”
