Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Equality addressed a lively crowd of thousands at today’s Madrid Pride March, ahead of EuroPride in Malta this September.

After the traditional walk with the activists, where more than two million people flocked the streets of the Spanish capital city, Buttigieg was invited to address the Pride event, which is considered one of the biggest manifestations in the world.

“Ten years ago Malta was considered one of the most conservative states in Europe, but thanks to major legislative reforms, many today consider my country to be the best in this field,” she said.

“Tolerance is never enough, she added.

“We want a society that cherishes.”

Buttigieg encouraged Pride participants to visit Malta for EuroPride, happening between the 7th and the 17th of September – a historic moment for the islands.

“Your participation in Malta’s EuroPride is an opportunity for everyone to be part of history, as an active citizen, in this living movement that is working for a more inclusive Europe. Be with us to beautify our capital city with vibrant colours of unity and pride. We will build memories that will stay with us forever.”
