Total Number Of COVID-19 Cases Across The World Passes 4 Million
The total number of COVID-19 cases across the globe has crossed the four million mark.
Of the four million, over 2.3 million cases are still active with over 278,000 deaths and 1.4 million recoveries worldwide.
The United States is the worst-hit with more than 1.3 million cases and 78,000 deaths. President Donald Trump says he expects 95,000 more deaths until a vaccine is found.
Europe is the hardest-hit continent. It accounts for a total of 1.7 million cases and 155,000 deaths. Germany, who recently lifted restrictive measures, has seen it’s R-factor, which is the rate that every infected patient passes on the virus, rise above 1.
Russia became the new hotspot for the outbreak after recording 10,000 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the sixth day in a row roughly reaching that figure.
Malta’s number of total cases stands at 490. However, with 427 recoveries, the number of active patients is 58. Malta’s has undergone an aggressive testing campaign with over 49,000 tests carried out so far.
Malta has been frequently praised for how it dealt with the global COVID-19 pandemic. After the first month of response, the World Health Organisation had already considered our small island “a model country” in dealing with COVID-19.
