Tourism In Malta Returning To Pre-Pandemic Levels With 350% Increase In Arrivals In June

Tourism in Malta is returning to pre-pandemic levels with the total number of arrivals in June climbing up by more than 350% when compared with the previous year.
The total number of arrivals for June 2022 stood at just over 247,000, a massive increase from the 70,300 visitors recorded in the same month in 2021.
Total inbound tourists for June 2022 is roughly 87.7% of the same figure recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic when around 280,000 visitors came to the country.
The highest recovery is among the 0-24 age bracket, which is at 91.,7% of what was recorded in 2019, while the lowest is the 45 to 64 age bracket, which is 82.9% of pre-pandemic levels.
During the first six months of 2022, the total number of visitors stood at 895,096 with a total tourist expenditure estimated at €695.9 million.
However, the total expenditure per capita stood at €777, decreasing from €862 in 2021
Almost 187,000 of the 247,000 people who visited the country were doing it for the first time in their lives, with repeat visitors totalling roughly 57,000.
