Transport Malta officials conducted a thorough inspection of 95 cars with Y-plates and numerous e-scooters in St Julian’s on a recent Saturday evening.

The aim of the operation was to enforce road safety regulations and maintain the integrity of the transport system.

Unfortunately, the inspection revealed several shortcomings and violations, underscoring the importance of adhering to traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.

Out of the 95 Y-Plate cars inspected, Transport Malta identified eight shortcomings. These included three vehicles operating without the required tag, a car with lighting problems, two vehicles parked in unauthorised areas, one car causing traffic congestion, and another vehicle stationed at an unauthorised terminus.

The inspection of e-scooters uncovered 41 contraventions. Fines were issued for various violations, including illegal parking, entering restricted areas, and driving without a valid license. Furthermore, Transport Malta officials noted instances of obstruction, such as improperly parked e-scooters blocking pedestrian pathways.

They also observed 15 individuals not wearing safety vests and identified two e-scooters parked in front of garages.

In addition to the vehicle inspections, Transport Malta officials conducted foot patrols along the Tas-Sliema and St Julian’s waterfront.

This measure aimed to ensure compliance with road safety rules and further contribute to maintaining an orderly transport system. By actively monitoring and enforcing regulations, authorities aim to create a safer environment for pedestrians and drivers alike.

Transport Malta emphasised that the operation in St Julian’s was conducted to enforce road safety rules and uphold the integrity of the country’s transport system. These efforts underscore the importance of all road users, including drivers and e-scooter riders, adhering to traffic laws and regulations. By following the rules, everyone can contribute to a safer and more efficient transportation network.
