Transport Minister Pledges To Release Plan To Address Malta’s Road Deaths In Coming Days
Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia has pledged to announce plans to address the rising number of deaths and accidents on Malta’s roads in the coming days.
“There are families who are grieving for their lost ones behind these numbers… I am concerned with these numbers,” Farrugia told journalists after a press conference.
“We have a plan which will be announced in the coming days, where we see that the numbers we have today are being considered.”
However, Farrugia did not give any details on the plan, with the road safety strategy anyway set to expire in 2024.
22 people have died in 2022 because of road traffic accidents, one less than the record set in 2016.
That means that roughly one person has died on Malta’s roads every two weeks in 2022. One particular road in Marsa has seen four deaths over the year.
The issue once again reared its head following a series of deaths over the last week, with families and friends mourning the losses of Jesus Reina, Anthony Bongailas and Marie Claire Lombardi.
What should be done to improve road safety?
