Transport Minister Slams New PN CEO’s 2019 Call For ‘Two-Car Tax’

Transport Minister Chris Bonett has called out new PN CEO Sabine Agius Cabourdin over a 2019 social media post in which she called for taxes on households with multiple cars.
Bonett said that while increasing car-related costs is an “easy” strategy, he has no intention of burdening people with extra costs.
In 2019, Agius Cabourdin called for taxes on households with two or more cars, as well as huge tax incentives for people purchasing e-cars and a reform in the public transport system.

This proposal wasn’t included in the PN’s manifesto.
“From the start of my tenure, I was crystal clear that I would never burden people, but it seems as though the PN’s new CEO has different ideas,” Bonett said.
“If it were up to her, she would limit the number of cars per household and burden families further. You are the problem, while she wants to continue driving.”
“It’s the same kind of behaviour the Opposition Leader showed when he said he got stuck in traffic, even though his MPs managed to arrive on time without making excuses.”
“A leopard doesn’t change its spots. You don’t attract people by punishing or burdening them but by offering sustainable alternatives. That’s why we’re implementing measures, pushing for Park & Rides and sea transport, and discussing mass transport.”
