Trash Problem In Żabbar Residential Area Leading To Rat Infestation

A trash problem created due to negligence in a Żabbar residential area is leading to a serious infestation of rats and cockroaches.

Concerned residents, who live on Triq il-Qaqoċċ, reached out to Lovin Malta to speak about the issue after reports to the locality’s local council fell on deaf ears.

“We live in a residential area in Zabbar which was built quite recently, and there is a big issue with garbage disposal and waste management in general,” the resident told Lovin Malta.

“My husband and I have contacted the local council on several occasions to come up with a more long-term solution and not just paying supposed contractors to clean up the area, which happened only once in the three years that we have been there,” they explained.

The resident detailed how recently, the area just keeps on getting more and more disgusting.

“The area is just horrible as you can see in the photos, the ground is literally covered in plastic. I cannot walk my dog or child,” they said.

“Passing there on foot you can smell a foul smell, and it’s full of cockroaches and rats. Abandoned cars and boat trailers are even being left there. But new blocks are still being built!”

“And there is literally not a single trash can in sight, apart from the one for dog faeces.”

“I think in 2022 we should all care a bit more about what environment we are living in, leave this world a better place and not keep turning a blind eye and run straight into apartments and houses so we do not see the world we left!”

The resident also stated that local councils should take such complaints and pleas seriously, as these issues greatly affect people’s health and safety.

Lovin Malta also attempted to reach out to the Żabbar local council to enquire about the issue, however, no response was provided at the time of publishing.
