A traveller was given medical assistance after a sign detached from the ceiling within the departures lounge at the Malta International Airport.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at 6.15pm.

“The travelling guest who was slightly injured when a sign got detached was assisted by our team, with an ambulance being called on site to offer medical assistance,” an MIA spokesperson told Lovin Malta.

“We have also kept in touch with the guest in question to follow up on her wellbeing and facilitate her travel arrangements,” they continued.

“We would like to apologise to the guest and her family. An internal investigation is currently underway.”

An image shared to Malta’s Reddit page saw a user describe the scene, saying the “sign detached from the ceiling, swung down and hit a poor lady on the head”.

MIA is currently undergoing renovation works involving their ceiling; however, it is not clear whether this effected the sign in any way.
