Tribunal Case Over Former Headmaster Mario Mallia’s Controversial Dismissal Kicks Off
The Malta Union of Teachers kicked off an industrial tribunal case in the name of former headmaster Mario Mallia.
Mallia was abruptly dismissed from his position as headmaster of St Albert the Great College in Valletta after disagreements with the board of the college, including over a number of inclusive initiatives.
“The MUT is offering its full support towards Mallia and all of the staff of the school, as we are all insisting on justice,” the MUT said in a statement.
“In the past few days, the MUT has taken a number of other steps, among which we also responded to the legal letters of intimidation from the Rector of the College against three college educators.”
“Apart from this, the MUT also announced an industrial dispute, issued directives, and supported the peaceful protest last week.”
“It even presented an open letter on behalf of the staff and even coordinated a meeting between the staff and the Archbishop that will take place on Tuesday,” it said.
The MUT also added that apart from all the support to Mallia, the union will also continue its work to handle this situation which is becoming “more serious and unprecedented”.
The case comes after the union held a protest in Valletta outside the school following Mallia’s dismissal.
