Tributes Pour In For Victim Of Kirkop Firework Factory Explosion Leonard Camilleri

Leonard Camilleri has been identified as the 64-year-old Kirkop resident who died from injuries sustained after the San Ġużepp firework factory exploded at around 7.10 this morning on Triq Ħal-Far.

As a result, the community is mourning the loss of “Nardu” as referred to by his dear friends who was in the room when the explosion occurred.

Moreover, tributes have been pouring in from people all over the country expressing their condolences and honouring Leonard’s life.

“We were praying that no one was hurt in the explosion that took place in the San Ġużepp firework factory. But unfortunately, Leonard Camilleri was found dead. We are thinking of all the security workers and volunteers who are running this delicate operation during the storm,” Minister for Inclusion Julia Farrugia Portelli said.

“This is a really dark day especially for the people of Kirkop. I salute the memory of Leonard Camilleri who tragically passed away earlier this morning in the firehouse explosion. Sincere condolences to his relatives and friends,” Environment Minister Miriam Dalli expressed.

“I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured. Thank you to the workers of the law enforcement, civil protection and medical teams for their work in such a delicate operation and in severe weather conditions.”

“A black day for our village. We join in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy, especially with the Saint Joseph Musical Society,” Kirkop United FC said.

“Whenever there is an explosion like this we need to face serious consequences. Condolences to the family of Leonard Camilleri,” PN MP Graziella Galea said.

“We have suffered the loss of a friend. Rest in Peace Nardo. Heartfelt condolences to the whole family and to the St. Joseph Musical Society in this difficult moment,” a friend wrote.

“A big pain in my heart. We lost a friend. A great person who loved and worked so much for the feast of Saint Joseph. Sincere condolences to all family and friends,” another person sincerely wrote.

“With great sadness the San Guzepp Musical Society is announcing the loss of the beloved Leonard Camilleri ex-Licencee of St. Joseph Fireworks Factory Kirkop,” the St. Joseph Musical Society wrote.

“The Society offers its condolences to  the family, and calls for caution in a difficult moment like this. Details will be given later.”

The police informed Lovin Malta that two men from Żurrieq aged 63 and 72 working in nearby fields, along with a 45-year-old from Kirkop who was in the room were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Update: the 63 and 45-year-old men were certified to have suffered from light injuries while the 72-year-old man did not sustain any injuries.
