The former leader of the Nationalist Party has hit out at a Maltese journalist over a story strongly linking him to a former Prime Minister.

Calling Manuel Delia a “peddlar of lies”, Adrian Delia shared a story alongside the story Joseph Muscat brings Adrian Delia back to top football league, which was published on Manuel Delia’s website Truth Be Told.

“Truth be told my arse,” Delia said publicly. “Any decent journalist would have bothered verifying his story! I guess not if your only agenda is set a priori.”

Delia later updated his status, clarifying that he is “not legal counsel.”

“I neither form part of a legal team advising the Malta Premier League. For the record I have not even been approached let alone appointed to occupy such position.”

In the article, Manuel Delia claims that Adrian Delia is working as one of two lawyers negotiating on behalf of premier league teams.

“Adrian Delia will be working alongside Jean Farrugia, one half of DF Advocates, a firm which in the past has denied having close links to former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri,” Delia wrote.

Delia continued by recounting some of the past history the two political figures shared.

“Adrian Delia was Leader of Opposition from September 2017 until his removal in a PN leadership challenge in October 2020. For most of that time, until Joseph Muscat’s resignation in January 2020, he was Joseph Muscat’s shadow,” Delia said.

“Adrian Delia was frequently criticised for holding back when criticising Joseph Muscat in spite of the fact that the then prime minister had, during Adrian Delia’s tenure as his opposite number, been recognised by the OCCRP as the world’s ‘Man of the Year for Organised Crime and Corruption’,” he continued.

A spokesperson from the Malta Premier League told Lovin Malta that the league was in the “process of putting together expert negotiating teams in order to start engaging with the MFA on the organisation of the new Premier League.”

“Premier League clubs have been asked to put forward their proposals for qualified individuals who can provide their services. Clubs are in the process of submitting names and the selection will take place accordingly.”
