In a brewing feud between social media giants, Twitter has threatened to sue Meta over its newly launched Threads app.

While Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg openly positioned as a rival to Twitter, Elon Musk has claimed that Meta has violated its intellectual property rights, including trade secrets.

In a letter addressed to Zuckerberg and obtained by Semafor, Twitter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, expressed serious concerns about Meta’s alleged systematic and willful misappropriation of Twitter’s intellectual property.

Twitter intends to take strong action to protect its intellectual property and demands that Meta immediately cease using any Twitter trade secrets or highly confidential information.

The letter from Twitter comes in response to the launch of Threads, a text-based conversation app by Meta, which has garnered significant attention.

Threads reportedly achieved 30 million sign-ups within 24 hours of its release, making it one of the fastest-downloaded apps to date.

In response to the positive reception of Threads, Zuckerberg expressed his satisfaction, stating that Meta’s aim is to create a “public conversations app with 1 billion+ people,” an opportunity that he believes Twitter has not fully capitalised on.

As the clash between Twitter and Meta intensifies, it remains to be seen how the dispute will unfold and if legal proceedings will ensue.
