A man and a woman have been arrested after police discovered suspected drugs during a traffic inspection in Marsa.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon on Triq is-Salib tal-Marsa during routine traffic checks.

Officers stopped a Kia Picanto and became suspicious while speaking to the 25-year-old driver from Santa Venera. He was asked to step out of the vehicle.

A search of the man led to the discovery of a sum of cash. Further checks inside the car and the 24-year-old Bormla passenger’s bag uncovered several packets containing a substance suspected to be cannabis, along with one packet suspected to contain cocaine.

Police said the drugs were found in circumstances that indicated they were not intended for personal use.

Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici has been informed and opened a magisterial inquiry.
