Two men were arrested in Swieqi yesterday afternoon after they were found in possession of around 130,000 allegedly stolen cigarettes.

The two perpetrators are 54 and 26, both residing in Mosta. Investigations made by police concluded that the cigarettes were stolen from a warehouse in Valletta back in July.

After days of further investigations into the case, police arrested the two men in Triq il-Qatta, Swieqi.

The police force was accompanied by members of the department of Customs as they made their way into an apartment in said street. There they found 13 boxes containing around 6,500 packets of cigarettes.

These cigarettes were allegedly planned to be sold as contraband, with some of the boxes already being loaded into one of the perpetrators’ vehicles.
