An Italian man and Maltese woman are battling serious injuries after a traffic accident in Żejtun.

In a statement, the police said that they were called for assistance along Triq Bir id-Deheb at 6pm following reports that a Honda motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old man collided with a Suzuki Swift driven by the Italian man, who is 27-years-old and lives in Luqa. 

The woman, aged 23 and lives in Għargħur, was the passenger on the motorcycle. 

Both are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital. 

An investigation has been opened with Magistrate Joe Mifsud leading the inquiry.
