One critically injured person and one dead person were found by the Armed Forces of Malta during an operation early yesterday evening.

The two people, who were reported to be onboard a rubber boat in Maltese waters, were said to be in a critical state and in need of attention. The operation included removing the body and taking the injured party for medical attention. The operation included both the AFM’s AW139 helicopter as well as the ship P52, the AFM reported.

It is as yet unknown whether the people aboard the rubber boat were migrants attempting to reach Europe or not, though Newsbook have reported that the men were ‘dark-skinned’.

The rescue comes hours after a medical evacuation took place aboard the vessel ‘Open Arms’ that saw eight migrants removed from a ship that was stuck between Malta and Italy for the last 14 days.
