Two extra fast ferry trips between Valletta and Gozo have been announced for tonight as more and more people plan to welcome 2025 on the sister island or the capital.

The decision comes after PN MP Alex Borg raised the issue, calling for immediate action to ease the congestion for people travelling between the two island, given the sister island and Malta’s capital are two hot spots for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“It would be good if these trips happen like they used to in the past,” Borg remarked this morning. Then, just over an hour later, the PN MP returned to thank Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett for responding promptly to his appeal.

The extra high-speed trips will see a ferry departing Mġarr at 10.15pm and arriving in Valletta at 11pm, while the returning ferry will leave the capital at 1am and arrive back at 1.45am.

Tonight, some 50,000 people are expected to attend Valletta’s NYE Celebrations in St George’s Square, with German dance music icon Cascada se to headline the mega concert. Meanwhile, Gozo’s capital will have its own grand New Year’s Eve concert, with international guest Sonique set to headline.

Earlier this week and right up to yesterday, videos of long queues of cars waiting to board the ferry to Gozo.
