Two Maltese Women To Swim Across Gozo Channel To Clean Our Seas
Two local swimmers, Carla Grima and Julia Ripard, will be doing a charity swim in order to raise money and fund a series of underwater cleaning trips.
The money raised will go towards dive cylinders, protective gloves, lifting bags, net bags, as well as transport for volunteers who’ll scrape the ocean floor for litter.
”Our motivation to raise money came from the many occasions on our sea swims that we encountered a lot of plastic rubbish littering the seabed, washed up along the coast and drifting on the surface of the water.” The two said, speaking to Lovin Malta “so it seemed fitting to raise the money to help clean up our coastline and seabed, so that we and others can continue to enjoy it as it should be”.
The swim is being organized by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club, and the clean-up will be handled by Malta Blue Diving School, and volunteers.
The two will be setting off on 26th August and they intend to cover 5.9k in around 2 hours. They will be leaving from Hondoq ir-Rummien, swing around Comino and finish off at Marfa, Malta.
If you want to help these two reach their goal, they’ve got a crowdfunding campaign that is already doing extremely well. The more you donate the more of clean-ups they can do.
You donate, they swim, divers clean. Simple. It just goes to show what’s possible with drive and determination to make things better.
