Two infant hedgehogs, known as hoglets, were found and removed from an active construction site in Mosta yesterday following a call for help from a local resident.
The two hoglets, who are so young their eyes haven’t yet opened, are currently in the care of Nature Trust Malta, who took to social media to describe the rescue, as well as to re-share their contact number just in case anyone comes across wildlife in distress or in need of rescue.
“Thanks to the kindness of a resident in Mosta two baby hedgehogs were rescued from a construction site yesterday. The mother could not be found. The hoglets, still with their eyes closed, are now at our rehab volunteers. Wildlife Rescue Line: 99999505,” they said in a public post.
Though the baby hedgehogs were successfully rescued, the mother has yet to be found.
The orphan hoglets, however, are in good health and are being fed and cared for.
